Tree Planting Event – Upper Hangman Creek

October 29, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Planting willow trees on Hangman Creek

So far we put up the fencing on TU’s reach and planted 600 small alders paid with an EPA grant. These are well away from the road. We have to plant the poles we cut up the St Joe on Friday. These were intended for the event tomorrow. I do not have a count on those, maybe 300 – 400. We will possibly put them on TU’s reach on the downstream end with the alders. What was invoiced to TU will be planted closer to the road and dense. I’ll pick a few spots for willow pole trenching and not put any pots in those areas. Willows will be planted in the spring, most of them drill and shove installations, but a few trenched areas.

For this fall we have 270 (5) gallon pots from Plants of the Wild, and 300 (2) gallon pots. We have an attachment on our mini ex for drilling the holes. You need about four people following the excavator to drop and pack the trees, and another 2 to install protection tubes. This would be pretty important for the aspen and cottonwood to be done immediately, as they are a favorite of beaver and elk. Can you get 6 people for Sat Oct 29th for 10 -2PM. With our people and 6 TU members I think we can get this done in 4 hours
