Fly Fishing Leader Building Class
December 10 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Are you looking to improve your abilities at fly fishing, and are you interested in becoming a more self-reliant and adaptable angler on the water? One of the best skills that can help you with that is learning how to build your own leaders for fly fishing. While we all like to use store-bought leaders, knowing how to make your own leaders comes with many benefits including learning how to:
- Select the right leader for the fly you want to use.
- Modify and repair leaders.
- Create leaders that can cast two flies.
- Building specialized leaders for indicator fishing, streamers, dry-droppers, etc.
Local fly fishing instructor, Marc Fryt (FlyFishSpokane.com), will be hosting a series of classes to help you learn how to build leaders. All materials and tools will be provided. During each class he’ll also discuss the leaders and flies he likes to use for fishing the Spokane River.
These events will also be “tie one, give one.” That is, every other leader that is tied will be set aside for future SFTU events such as youth and community fly fishing programs to help to teach people how to fly fish and connect them with our homewater, the Spokane River.
Below is a list of the events (you don’t need to RSVP):
- November 24th, 2:00pm, Lumberbeard Brewing. In this class, we’ll learn how to build leaders specifically for indicator (bobber) fishing.
- December 10th, 5:30pm, Lumberbeard Brewing. In this class, we’ll learn how to build and modify leaders for dry fly fishing, specifically a 9 foot 3x leader.
- January 7th, 5:30pm, Lumberbeard Brewing. In this class, we’ll learn how to build two-fly leaders (such as leaders that can hold a dry fly and a nymph, two nymphs, two streamers, etc.).
