Willow Warriors

May 10, 2019 - May 11, 2019

willow warrors

Willow WarriorsThe dates for this year’s Willow Warriors event are Friday, May 10th and Saturday May 11th.

We have 3,000 mixed species of native willow to plant between the two days. I can’t believe it, but this will be our 11th anniversary for this event! Every year it is so exciting to get out there see what’s getting established from the previous years in both of our target reaches… The first reach, between Latah and Waverly, has really started to show a favorable response with numerous willow plantings becoming well established since we first began our quest more than eleven years ago!!! The second reach, between the mouth of California Creek and the mouth of Stevens Creek, just upstream of the Hangman Valley Golf Course, similar to the first reach, has also begun to show some great willow establishment over the last few years. We are really making a huge difference out there people!!!

Warning!!! Space for this event is limited by the number of canoes that we have available to us. At this point, we can only accommodate a maximum of 16-20 people per day (8-10 canoes), unless some of you wish to bring your own canoes/kayaks (please let me know if you plan to bring your own). In the interest of fairness, please be aware that we will be operating the event on a first-come-first-served basis, so signing up early is highly encouraged. My goal is to also have an evenly dispersed number of folks from various organizations in order to create a networking atmosphere during the event.

As a representative of your organization, please have your volunteers fill in their information legibly and accurately on the attached sign-up sheet. Also, please emphasize the importance of keeping their commitment to attending on the days that they sign up for. This really helps me in determining the number of canoes and equipment that are necessary for each event. It is imperative that each organization representative submit your sign-up sheets with the required information for each individual (Name, personal/emergency contact #s, birth-date and attendance date) to me by April 24th. This will allow me the necessary time to organize the equipment and process the volunteer waiver forms for each organization.

Spokane Conservation DistrictPlease find links below to the sign-up sheet/agenda for the event and the Adult/Minor Liability Waiver forms that must be completed for each volunteer in order to participate in the event.  Please contact Daniel Ross at Spokane Conservation District ASAP if you have any questions.
